Help clean this nice couple's first (meth) house

Although way far off I can imagine the joy in buying you're first home.  Got that feeling?  Then imagine you've just purchased something that is worthless and that is poisoning you and your family.

As seen on CNN today, this is an awful story about a couple who bought their first home together.  Then found out that it was a meth house for many years.  They are now stuck with this poisonous house and no legal aid.  Check out their blog. http://ourmethhouse.blogspot.com/

As a warning to all.  If it wasn't already obvious.  Google any property you're going to buy!  Google is you're friend.  Check the National Clandestine Laboratory Register to see if any property you are going to purchase could be hazardous.

Replica Wedding Cake Ornament

As drooled over seen many times on Esty "replica wedding cake" we decided to make our own.  Why pay $50 + shipping when we've got creative talent?!  So we think.  For about $5 (with Michaels coupons) and an hour or so we created our own mini cake ornament.  We used fimo clay which is mold-able and bakes hard in the oven.  We added a metal loop on the back to hang from our tree.

Looks just like it!

Make up Secret Alert! Review: Truth About Monistat Chafing Powder Gel as MakeUp Primer

Review: Truth About Monistat Chafing Powder Gel as MakeUp Primer

as seen on:

Best of the ‘Bee - Ace your Face (Pt. 1) | Weddingbee

and they're the EXACT same ingredients? hmmm.

So I already have pretty perfect skin.  Yeah it's envy worthy.  Sorry but it's true.  I have even skin tone with almost zero history of acne.  Regardless... after one week of using this "primer" (remember this does NOT treat yeast infections) I have to say it actually works.  Post 10+ hour work day my make up still looks good and since more comes off when removing it at night I have to say it must be working.  I never thought I'd add another ridiculous step to my make up routine but since its only 7 bucks I might be able to handle it.

Brownie Pecan Pie

For Thanksgiving this year I made brownie pecan pies.  Taken from Bakeralla this delicious recipe tastes as good as it looks.  And yep I used premade brownie mix since I'm classy like that and it's easier than making everything from scratch.  Also my lazy self tried to trick our guests by putting one of the frozen pie crusts in one of our glass pie dishes.  It didn't fit but expanded in the oven so I think I'll get away with it.

BROWNIE PECAN PIE
1/4 cup melted butter
1/4 cup packed brown sugar
1 Tablespoon self-rising flour
1/4 cup light corn syrup
1 teaspoon vanilla
2 eggs
2 cups pecans
1 package brownie mix and ingredients listed on the box
2 frozen regular pie shells
———————————
  • Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  • Place brown sugar in a large bowl and work out lumps. Add flour and stir together until the flour disappears.
  • Add corn syrup and vanilla. Stir until thoroughly until combined.
  • Add melted butter. Fold into mixture until it disappears.
  • Loosely beat two eggs in a separate bowl and fold into mixture until the eggs disappear.
  • Stir in pecans and set aside.
  • Prepare brownie batter as instructed on package.
  • Remove two frozen pies shells from freezer and divide brownie batter evenly between the two.
  • Spoon pecan pie mixture evenly between the two pie shells.
  • Bake brownie regular pie shell version for about 35 minutes.
  • Place a large sheet of foil across the top of the two pies for the last 10-15 minutes to avoid pie crust from browning too much.
  • Remove from oven and cool.

final note: this came out a little dry.  don't overbake.  works well with whipped cream!

Books I've read 2010

Recent Favorite Books

  • The Hunger Games - books 1, 2 & 3.  Sorry but book 3 was boring.  I had to force my way through the end of Mockingjay  Either make kids kill each other or don't write a book.  Also I don't like the categorization of this book "Young Adult".  Really Amazon, B&N etc people?  Way to make me feel old!  Books 1 & 2 The Hunger Games & Catching Fire rocked though.
  • Squirrel Seeks Chipmunk - if you like humor and/or animals this book is for you.  They're short stories - which are perfect for people with ADD, small children or short commutes to work.
  • Blink - this is totally interesting in a very nerdy way.  If you've ever wanted to know how people think or make decisions read this.  Especially if you think you have some special power like being psychic, having that "motherly instinct" or think you're better than other people at judging things, then read this book.
  • Friday Night Knitting Club (and sequel Knit Two) - The first book was pretty good.  Single mother has cool knitting store in NYC.  Teaches daughter life lessons and (spoiler alert) then dies.  Sequel was pooh.
  • The Elegance of the Hedgehog - I didn't like this book.  It was ... how shall I put it. Weird.  Maybe if you're into history, French things or philosophy you might enjoy it.  ehh. (that's eehhh in a bad way).  Picture me doing my upper lip jeer.
  • The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo: books 1 -3.  This trilogy was awesome.  I loved reading them and despite them having tons of Swedish words of names and places it was very cool and not that hard to follow.  I've seen the Swedish movies and even those are good.  Hollywood movies are in the making currently.  I can't wait.
  • The Help: A+
  • Room: A+
  • Heart of the Matter: B-
  • Committed: My first book on marriage, since being married.  I like it!  Would definitely recommend.  A.
